BankruptcyPRO is being retired, and where its users can go
Short answer
BankruptcyPRO is LegalPRO Systems’ desktop bankruptcy petition software, and LegalPRO has told its customers it is being retired in favor of Jubilee, its browser-based product. Its newsletters said form and plan changes would be maintained through 2024, with only means-test figures and exemptions updated from 2025. The realistic destinations are Jubilee, Best Case and NextChapter, and each is a migration.
BankruptcyPRO firms are in the same spot CINcompass firms were in a few years ago. The software still opens, the vendor has a successor it would like you on, and every month of delay leaves more of the forms to maintain by hand. This page sets out what LegalPRO Systems has said, what the move to Jubilee carries over, and how the other options compare. We publish Casewell, which is not a petition platform and is listed only for the part it does, so check competitor facts against the vendor pages linked.
Is BankruptcyPRO being discontinued?
Yes, by the vendor’s own account, in stages. LegalPRO Systems’ customer newsletters, published on jubileepro.com, said in January 2023 that BankruptcyPRO had already been in maintenance mode for a year, with renewal prices rising to reflect the cost of keeping it running. Its December 2023 newsletter said BankruptcyPRO was being retired. Form and plan changes would be maintained through 2024, and from 2025 only means-test figures and exemptions would be updated.
In practice that matters most where local forms and Chapter 13 plan forms change often, which the newsletter itself flagged as the districts that should move first. A national form amendment or a district plan revision that BankruptcyPRO no longer carries becomes a manual job on every case. LegalPRO also said a BankruptcyPRO license would transfer to Jubilee, and we found no fixed shutdown date. Ask LegalPRO in writing what is still supported in your district before you file another Chapter 13 in it.
What happens to your cases if you move to Jubilee?
Jubilee has an export from BankruptcyPRO, and LegalPRO describes its limits candidly. Its announcement said not every piece of data maps directly to Jubilee, and that the export covers basic case information, creditors, assets and Schedules I and J. Its export guide adds that the export does not send 100% of the case file, that re-exporting a case to pick up later changes creates a duplicate case in Jubilee, and that large case files can take 30 minutes or more. Documents in the BankruptcyPRO client folder can be included or left out.
- Export two real cases first, one clean Chapter 7 and one Chapter 13 with a plan, and compare them schedule by schedule against the filed petition, not against the export log.
- Decide where open Chapter 13 cases finish. Cases with years of docket history are often best completed in the software they started in while it still runs.
- Pull your filed record from CM/ECF and PACER. Whatever any export carries, the court’s copy of each filed petition is the archive that matters when a client comes back.
- Export the client contact list and any credit reports you paid for, the pieces most often stranded in a move.
How do the alternatives to BankruptcyPRO compare?
| Product | Owner | Deployment | Published price | Capterra rating | Getting BankruptcyPRO cases in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jubilee Pro | LegalPRO Systems | Browser | $995 a year (Jubilee 36) to $4,995 a year (Jubilee 500), or $95 per case | 4.5 on 105 reviews | The vendor’s own export, which it says does not carry 100% of a case; your license transfers |
| Best Case | Stretto | Windows desktop, or Best Case Cloud in a browser | Cloud $99 per user per month; desktop $1,500 to $4,000 in year one | 3.9 on 39 reviews | No BankruptcyPRO import. The printed petition can be converted into a Best Case file |
| NextChapter | Clio | Browser | $159 a year up to 4 cases, $649 up to 11, $999 unlimited | 4.8 on 136 reviews | No BankruptcyPRO import we could find; NextChapter publishes a switching page for firms on other software |
| Casewell | Independent | Browser, alongside Best Case rather than instead of it | Free during the current beta | Not listed | Reads a printed official-form petition package and writes a Best Case Desktop file, for firms choosing Best Case |
Should a BankruptcyPRO firm move to Jubilee or somewhere else?
- Jubilee, if you want the shortest move. Same vendor, a license transfer, a built-in export and a familiar forms model. Jubilee also resells Stretto’s CIN credit data, and intake tools like BK Packet and BK Questionnaire import into it.
- NextChapter, if you want the highest-rated product. 4.8 on 136 Capterra reviews and low entry pricing, at the cost of a move with no BankruptcyPRO import.
- Best Case, if your district or your staff already know it. The incumbent, so the one new hires are most likely to know already. It is also the only one of the three that Casewell writes files for.
Where does Casewell fit for a firm leaving BankruptcyPRO?
Only if the firm lands on Best Case. Every bankruptcy program prints the same federal official forms, so a BankruptcyPRO print is in the same format Casewell reads. Casewell reads a text-searchable official-form package and writes a Best Case Desktop file, carrying debtor identity, property, creditors, Schedules I and J and executory contracts, with exemptions, intentions, most Statement of Financial Affairs answers and the means test preserved as notes for manual entry. It is built for individual Chapter 7 packages, and a BankruptcyPRO print specifically has not been tested. The details are on converting a printed petition into Best Case.
The larger saving comes after the move. Whichever platform a firm chooses, new intake still has to be typed in. Casewell reads a completed intake packet, handwritten or typed, or the notes and recording of a consultation, has staff confirm any field its independent reads disagreed on, and exports a .BCB file that Best Case imports. It is free during the current beta. See how Casewell works.
Is BankruptcyPRO still supported?
LegalPRO Systems told customers in its December 2023 newsletter that BankruptcyPRO is being retired, with form and plan changes maintained through 2024 and only means-test figures and exemptions updated from 2025. We found no published final shutdown date, so confirm current support in writing.
What replaced BankruptcyPRO?
Jubilee, LegalPRO Systems’ browser-based bankruptcy software, sold as Jubilee Pro. LegalPRO says a BankruptcyPRO license transfers to Jubilee.
Can I move my BankruptcyPRO cases to Jubilee?
Yes, with limits. LegalPRO provides an export that it says covers basic case information, creditors, assets and Schedules I and J but not 100% of the case file, and re-exporting a case creates a duplicate in Jubilee. Test it on real cases first.
Can I move BankruptcyPRO cases into Best Case?
There is no direct import. A printed official-form petition package can be read by Casewell and written as a Best Case Desktop file, with some sections kept as notes for manual entry. BankruptcyPRO prints have not been tested specifically.
Is BankruptcyPRO the same as Bankruptcy Pro or a pro se filing tool?
No. BankruptcyPRO is attorney petition software from LegalPRO Systems. Searches for bankruptcy pro also return pro se filing guides, which are for debtors filing without a lawyer and are unrelated.
