BK Packet pricing, how it works, and the alternatives
Short answer
BK Packet is an online bankruptcy client form from Legal Motion. The client fills it in and signs electronically, and the firm imports the answers into BankruptcyPRO or Jubilee, the two LegalPRO Systems products it supports. It is priced by credit with no monthly fee, from $12 for one packet to $100 for 25, or $4 each. It does not import into Best Case or NextChapter.
BK Packet is the simplest and cheapest of the bankruptcy intake products: one online form, sold by the packet, feeding the LegalPRO Systems petition software. This page covers how it works, what it costs, where the data goes, and what a firm on other petition software uses instead. We publish Casewell, one of the alternatives below, so check every competitor fact against the linked vendor page.
What is BK Packet?
BK Packet is a secure online client intake form for consumer bankruptcy, described by its maker as a product of Legal Motion. The firm creates an account for the client, the client completes the petition questions online, covering property, assets, debts, income, expenses and financial affairs, and verifies the answers with an electronic signature. The attorney sees progress in real time, gets an alert when the form is complete, and can print it, export a PDF or import it into the firm’s bankruptcy software.
Two details from the BK Packet FAQ are worth knowing. A consumer cannot use it alone; a law firm has to create the account. And the signature is an electronic signature rather than a digital one, a distinction the vendor draws itself, so a firm that needs identity-verified signing should plan for a separate e-signature step.
How much does BK Packet cost?
BK Packet is sold by credit, one credit per client account, with no monthly fee for a law firm account and credits that the vendor says never expire. The published pricing falls with volume.
| Credits bought | Price | Per packet |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $12 | $12 |
| 3 | $30 | $10 |
| 5 | $45 | $9 |
| 10 | $60 | $6 |
| 25 | $100 | $4 |
That makes BK Packet the lowest published per-case price in bankruptcy intake software. For comparison, BK Questionnaire publishes plans from $39.99 to $129.99, and Stretto sells MyCaseInfo per download without publishing the rate.
Which bankruptcy software does BK Packet import into?
BankruptcyPRO and Jubilee, both from LegalPRO Systems. The vendor’s FAQ names those two and no others, and we found no mention of Best Case or NextChapter. For a firm on either of those, BK Packet is a printable or PDF questionnaire, which puts the typing back on staff.
There is a timing point for BankruptcyPRO users. LegalPRO Systems told its customers in its own newsletters that BankruptcyPRO is being retired in favor of Jubilee, its cloud product. A firm adopting BK Packet today should plan on the Jubilee import being the one that lasts. The background is in BankruptcyPRO retirement and the options.
How does BK Packet compare with the alternatives?
| Product | Who fills it in | Reads a completed paper packet | Imports into | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BK Packet | The client, online, with an electronic signature | No | BankruptcyPRO and Jubilee | $4 to $12 a packet, no monthly fee |
| BK Questionnaire | The client, online or in a phone app | No. It reads pay stubs and document scans | CSV, a Jubilee partnership, its own Chapter 7 petition system | $39.99 to $129.99, $159 for a joint case |
| MyCaseInfo | The client, online | No | Best Case | Per download, rate not published |
| Casewell | Your staff, from the packet the client already completed, interview notes or a recorded meeting | Yes, handwritten or typed | Best Case, as a .BCB client file | Free during the current beta |
Who should use BK Packet?
- Jubilee and BankruptcyPRO firms whose clients will complete an online form. The import is direct and the cost per case is a few dollars.
- Low-volume and occasional filers, because there is no subscription and unused credits do not expire.
- Firms that want one plain form rather than a portal with apps, assistants and add-ons.
What do Best Case firms use instead?
A Best Case firm has two published routes for intake data that the client already supplied. MyCaseInfo, Stretto’s own web questionnaire, imports into Best Case when the client completes it online. Casewell covers the other case, where the client hands back a completed packet on paper or the facts come out in the consultation.
Casewell reads the uploaded packet, handwritten or typed, several times independently and compares the reads field by field. Fields the reads disagreed on are shown to staff beside the source to confirm. Interview notes, live dictation and recorded meetings go through the same review. The confirmed case becomes a Best Case .BCB client file, read back and checked before the firm downloads it, which Best Case then imports as a client. It is built and verified on Chapter 7 cases, writes Best Case files only, and is free during the current beta. The full method is on how Casewell works.
How much does BK Packet cost?
One credit per client account, with no monthly fee. The published prices are $12 for one credit, $30 for 3, $45 for 5, $60 for 10 and $100 for 25, which is $4 a packet at the largest bundle. The vendor says credits never expire.
Does BK Packet work with Best Case?
Not as an import. BK Packet’s FAQ names BankruptcyPRO and Jubilee as the software it imports into, and its public pages do not mention Best Case. A Best Case firm would be printing or exporting the answers and keying them.
Who makes BK Packet?
Legal Motion, which also sells BK Data, a reporting tool showing where and by whom bankruptcy cases are filed, and Yes Review, a review-collection product.
Can a debtor use BK Packet without a lawyer?
No. The vendor’s FAQ says a consumer must contact a law firm, which creates the account.
Does BK Packet read handwritten questionnaires?
No. It is an online form the client types into. A completed paper or PDF packet is what Casewell reads, for firms that file in Best Case.
